Kindergarten, and really elementary school, is all about setting a strong foundation for reading, writing, and math. But, kids get tired of doing worksheet and after worksheet, am I right?
Today I am sharing a game that I created for my kindergartner to practice her 10 number bonds. This number bond game makes math practice fun for your budding mathematician!
This is a make 10 game that I’m sure you kiddos will love! And it’s so simple!
What is a number bond, anyway?
I’m so glad you asked! A number bond is just a fancy term for those early addition facts that kids need to know instantly. In this case, all the numbers that add together to make 10. So, 10+0, 1+9, 2+8, 3+7, 4+6, and 5+5 are all numbers bonds to 10.
How to Play
There are 36 cards in the game. Each card has six numbers on it. But, only one number bond to 10! That’s right, only two of the six numbers will add to ten. So, players have to race to be the first to spot the number bond and yell it out.
Put the cards in a pile and flip the top card over. Whoever yells the number bond first gets to keep that card. Play continues until all the cards have been played. The player with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner!
Single Player Version
For those kids who don’t like competition or just want to practice without the pressure, you can also play this number bond game solo. Simply look at each card and try to spot the number bond to 10 on that card.
