My kids (like most young kids!) are fascinated by space. Whether it is the Sun, Earth, the moon, or any of the planets – kids just love space! My kids also love cut and paste activities! So, when we were studying space I created these All About Space notebooking pages to use in our space unit study.
Today, I’m sharing this FREE space activity for kids that would be a gread addition to a homeschool solar system unity study any lesson plan for elementary students involving space. If you would like to purchase the complete set of space activity pages, you can do that in my shop.

I wanted something that my second grader and kindergartner cold both do (or had at least some things my kindergartner could do, too). My girls love to color, so I created the pages with a font and clip art that allows for some personalization, which my girls loved!
My objectives for our space unity study were that my children would be able to:
learn all the planets and their order
learn about the Sun and the fact that it is hot, provides energy for the Earth and is a giant star
learn basic space vocabulary such as meteor, comet, etc.
learn about the moon landing
Since this was our first time doing any space activities I wanted to keep it simple and fun. I included more activities than just these space notebooking pages, so my girls picked up lots of facts and had fun!
What’s in the Space Notebooking Pages?

I started off with a cover page. It simply gives the title of the unit study and has some space (no pun intended!) for coloring and personalization. My daughter chose purple and yellow to color in the letters, which I thought was very “spacey”. She added her own moon and flowers, too! I totally get the moon, but not sure where the flowers fit in. I guess everything looks better with flowers when you are a second grade girl!
These space activity pages for kids can be used a couple different ways. We use a composition notebook. So, I created a dotted line for my girls to cut around and paste their pages into their compositio book. But, you could simply three-hole punch each page and stick them in a binder just as easily. I made sure that there was nothing where the holes would go, so you won’t mess up any of the activities if you choose to go the three-ring-binder route!
Planet Profile Pages
For Earth, Mars, and Jupiter, there is a “profile” page. There is an image of either the Sun or the planet that is featured on that particular page. I used black and white images to save on ink and to give another opportunity for my girls to color! You can color the image or just leave it blank if your kiddo isn’t into coloring.

Each page has a word bank and several facts about that particular celestial body. So, the page on Neptune will teach your child that it is the farthest planet from the Sun, it is made up mostly of gas, and Neptune is sometimes also called the Blue Planet. There are a few more facts, but that gives you the general idea.
Space Vocabulary
My kids love to cut and paste and they also love to lift flaps. I made a space vocabulary activity where one page has the defintions of some space words and it just stays as is and then a second page has the vocabulary words on it. Your child cuts out the vocabulary flap and pastes it over the correct definition. They only glue the tab on the left side, so now they will have a “lift the flap” space vocabulary page to practice learning their space words.
I’ve included meteor, telescope, comet, milky way, moon, sun, asteroid, and planet. The vocabulary activity page is part of the complete product available for purchase in my shop.

True and False Space Facts
As a review of space facts, children can also complete a true or false activity page. My second grader read the facts and the girls took turns answering true or false. The download does not contain all the reading or informatinoal text needed to answer all of these questions, so you’ll have to do some research as you go! My kids love looking things up to answer questions, so we had fun with this page.

Astronaut Puzzle Activity
This page isn’t really about space, but my girls did enjoy it! Students cut out the puzzle squares and paste them on the corresponding workpage to create an astronaut! This is included in the free download at the botom of this page.

My daughters both loved these activities and I’m sure your kids will, too!
Like I said before, we used some other space resources in our homeschool space unity study. Here they are!
Other Space Unity Study Resources
Before we completed these activity pages, we spent some time learning all about space. You can click on any of the images to learn more about each product. We are big Usborne fans and they did not disappoint when it came to space. We read some books:
We also completed our floor space puzzle! We have the Melissa and Doug puzzle, but there are some other great ones, too! One thing I love about the Meliss and Doug space puzzle is that it shows the inner and outer planets separated by the asteroid belt.
Another fun way we do space in our house is using space sticker books! These are a fun way for little hands to get involved. The stickers gives your kids something to keep them occupied while you read the information about space on each page.
Learning about space can be such a fun and exciting topic in elementary school! I hope you find these resources helpful and you and your child enjoy them us as much as me and my girls did! YOu can sign up below and get access to the free pages or purchase the entire set in my shop.
