Today I am sharing how I use these dry erase flashcards to provide feedback and let my daughter work independently. Plus, they are totally customizable, so you can use your child’s favorite character and make them for any subject.

I picked up some Valentine’s Day cards from the dollar store to use for my reusable flashcards. With three girls, they all loved Frozen flashcards, but we also bought some Vampirina and My Little Pony cards. They also had tons of boy-ish cards, too. And, they’re $1!!
Creating these custom flashcards literally takes about 3 minutes. I love it!
Before we get started, you will need the following:
Self-laminating sheets (or a laminator and laminating sheets)
Valentine’s Day Cards (the kind that have “To:” on the top and “From:” on the bottom.
Scissors
Dry erase markers
Step 1: Break the cards apart and lay them on the self-laminating sheet. I didn’t really care if there was an “edge” for each card. My laminating sheets stick really well and I just wanted them to add a bit of durability. And, this is what makes the cards reusable! So, don’t worry if it’s a tight squeeze or the very edge of a card is hanging off.
Step 2: Carefully (!!) lay the top laminating sheet onto the cards. Again, try to line it up as best you can, but mine got a tad crooked, so one corner of my last two cards wasn’t covered and it was fine. Now, you should have one solid sheet of Valentine’s Day cards.
Step 3: Cut the cards apart and then cut them in half. Mine had a faint line where you could fold them if you were giving them as Valentine’s Day cards. I just cut on this line. Now you have picture puzzles that match up!
Now you can use them to practice any number of skills! We used them for some math fact practice. My daughter loved that she could flip over the reusable flashcard and immediately see if she was correct.
You could really use these for a lot of subjects, though. My preschooler can use them to practice uppercase and lowercase letter matching. My kindergartner will be matching numerals with groups of dots to practice her number recognition and counting.
You could also use them for rhyming words, subtraction, multiplication, division, compound words, contraction matching, the ideas are endless. Just write on them and wipe off when you are done!
