I had the same problem!
I wanted to give my daughters a deeper experience with books and learning in general.
My oldest daughter hated writing and I wanted to change that.
My girls are very social, so I wanted to give them a consistent opportunity to connect with kids their ages in a fun, safe environment.

Snuggle in and share engaging picture books with your young learners. Then, use those picture books to jump off on learning adventures to explore the world around us.

Monthly ONline Book Clubs
Your elementary and middle school students will read though provoking (and fun!) books to get them thinking critically about the world around them. Through montly video chats we will discuss the books we read, asking big questions and sharing our thoughts. We will also jump down rabbit holes to explore topics related to the books. (Book clubs separated into early elementary and upper elementary/middle school)

Your child will work on their writing through age-appropriate projects and activities such as list making, creating pop-up books, picture prompts, and more. We will meet during the month to share our writing masterpieces on video chat.

Strap on your problem-sovling helmet and get ready for some fun! Every other month, we will complete a STEM challenge. Participants can meet and show off their competed projects and discuss obstacles they faced and how they overcame them!

How to Enrich Your Homeschool
If you want to enrich your homeschool, then start researching ideas and gathering resources. Look for ways to bring literature alive, challenge your child's thinking, and connect with peers.

Choose a picture book literary unit. Read the book with your child. Check out the supplementary resources and activities to go with that book. Reading Horton Hears a Who? Here are the activites you can choose from:
- Learn about elephants

- Learn how sound and volume works and how our ears allow us to hear

- Explore similies and metaphors

Journies Through Literature
In this monthly online book club (it's really two book clubs - one younger and one older), we will read books that take us around the world, look at historical events, explore other cultures, and let us explore our own thoughts and feelings, too. And, some books will just be for good ol' fashioned fun!
When we read Heart of a Samurai by Marg Preus, we will:
- Explore life in America and Japan in the 19th century
- learn about Samurai
- Make a Japanese recipe
- Explore the Gold Rush
- Discuss the major themes of the book like family, feeling out of place, and navigating different cultures
Wordsmiths Unfolding
Writing is so much more fun when you do it with friends! Unlock your child's inner writer with twice-quarterly (alternates with STEM Society) writing activities! We will have two writing options - one geared toward early elementary and one for upper elementary/middle grades. Here are just a few of the things your child will get to experience in Wordsmiths Unfolding:
- exploring the world through lists
- creating stories to go with pictures
- writing MadLibs for their friends to complete
- creating a pop-up story of their very own
STEM Society
STEM and critical thinking are such important topics in today's world! Your child will get to stretch his or her brain and learn to problem solve through various quarterly (alternates with Wordsmiths Unfolding) STEM challenges like:
- Who's Boat Holds the Most?
- Don't Break the Egg!
- Clean Up the Oil Spill
- The Bounciest Trampoline
We will meet as a group on video chat to share our results, talk about obstacles we faced, and celebrate our successes!

About Your Teacher
As a former engineer turned high school math teacher turned homeschool mom, Surya has a passion for making learning come alive. She believes the best way to get students interested in school is to make it, well, interesting!
In The Homeschool Clubhouse, Surya uses her love of reading and creativity to bring exciting book clubs, engaging writing experiences, and STEM activities into your homeschool.
F.A.Q.s
The Homeschool Clubhouse runs continuously. When you join you can join in on our current book club or activity or go back through the archived activities at your own pace until we start a new cycle the following month. There is plenty to do!
The book clubs mainly require the book, but you may need some additional materials if you are going to complete the projects or activities that go along with the book.
The STEM activities will require additional materials, but I try to keep them as "around the house" as possible. I give you a supply list at the beginning of the month, so you have plenty to time to prepare.
I realize that most homeschooling families have a variety of ages, so we try to have a little something for everyone here.
The picture book units are for younger learners, maybe ages 2-6. The early chapter book club is for ages 7-12. The upper/middle book club is for ages 12-14. All ages are approximate and your child can do whichever group seems to be a better fit.
The STEM Society has two levels, so younger children aren't frustrated because the challenge is too hard and the older kids aren't bored.
Writing works the same way - activities for a younger set and an older group. You are welcome to choose whatever fits your child the best.
